Stunning Navajo made horse hair pottery
Horse hair pottery is a decorative technique in Native American pottery where horse hair is placed onto a hot, unglazed ceramic piece straight from the kiln, burning and carbonizing to leave unique, intricate black lines and smoke patterns on the surface. The process often involves a Raku-style firing, where combustible materials like wood chips may also be added, and the final piece is polished with wax to enhance the design and protect the delicate carbon marks.
This item is preowned in good vintage condition with a small hairline fracture and small chip.
