Antique French Double Sided Fan Hand Painted Gilt Carved Sticks 19th C

This exquisite antique French double-sided folding fan dates to the mid-to-late 19th century(circa 1860–1899)

The fan leaf is beautifully designed with a lithographed central scene, delicate hand-painted accents and gilt highlights on both sides. Each side depicts an elegant period tableau — likely romantic or pastoral in theme — characteristic of Belle Époque.

The guards and sticks are finely carved from a light natural material, with detailed openwork and traces of original gold decoration. A mother-of-pearl washer adorns the gold-toned rivet, reflecting the refined craftsmanship typical of high-quality 19th-century French fans.

Four inner sticks have become detached from the fan leaf (but remain attached at the rivet end). The fan opens partially and displays beautifully. The leaf shows minor flaking and small areas of surface wear, consistent with age and use.
