Set(3)of authentic Utagawa Yoshiiku (歌川芳幾) woodblock prints from the Meiji 19 (1886) edition of Kabuki Jūhachiban no Uchi — "The Eighteen Great Kabuki Plays."
Each print portrays the legendary actor Ichikawa Danjūrō IX (九世市川團十郎) in one of his heroic aragoto roles, captured with bold color and expressive drama typical of Yoshiiku's late-Meiji actor portraiture.
The subjects included:
Fudō Myō-ō (不動明王) – the blue guardian deity.
Teruhi no Mikoto (照日の神子) – dramatic oni mask role with layered robes.
Yanone (矢の根) – red-faced warrior, one of Danjūrō's signature scenes.
Each displays:
• Fine karazuri patterning.
• Natural mineral pigments and visible handmade washi fibers.
• Printed 芳幾筆 (Yoshiiku hitsu) artist signature.
