This has been confirmed by the Apple Store. Also, the battery has expanded within the device (please see side photo). An explanation as to why this has occurred is below (general web search). ‘An iPhone battery expands due to outgassing caused by chemical reactions, often from aging, overcharging, damage, or heat exposure.’ Please note, the phone cannot and should not be used in its current condition. An immediate battery replacement is needed. It does not retain charge unless plugged into the wall. No refunds.
