Adolf Wölfli, The Art of Adolf Wölfli: St. Adolf-Giant-Creation Art Collection.
Elka Spoerri (Author), Adolf Wölfli (Author), Daniel Baumann (Author), American Folk Art Museum (Author), & 2 others
Adolf Wölfli (1864–1930), despite being institutionalized at the age of 31 for schizophrenia, achieved artistic greatness in his solitary cell at the Waldau Psychiatric Hospital near Bern, Switzerland.
André Breton called his work "one of the three or four most important bodies of work of the 20th century."
"The Art of Adolf Wölfli" presents his work from a new perspective through stunningly detailed drawings and eye-catching collages, as well as newly translated texts swirling with myth and humor.
Furthermore, it includes insightful essays by leading researchers specializing in his art and life.
Primarily working with pencil on newsprint, Wölfli created a dense and astonishing synthesis, interweaving prose, poetry, musical compositions, colored illustrations, and collages of unrestrained imagination.
His magnum opus, the five-part "St. Adolf-Giant-Creation," comprises 45 large volumes and 16 notebooks, totaling approximately 25,000 pages, including 1,620 drawings and 1,640 collages.
This book serves as the definitive resource for this body of work.
There is slight scuffing on the cover, but the interior is in very good condition with no writing or folding.
