This is an Imperial Jingdezhen Porcelain "Beauties of the Red Mansion" plate. It is 3rd in the limited (115 firing days per plate) edition series by Master Artisan Zhao Huimin depicting heroines of the classic 18th century Chinese novel “A Dream of Red Mansions.” A possibly partly autobiographical family saga that critiques the opulent but ultimately doomed world of the Jia family and 18th century Chinese aristocracy. Hsi-feng (Wang Xifeng) -clever, beautiful and ruthless- is the powerful, household manager of the Jia family. But while her sharp tongue, financial acumen, and cruel streak serve her well as she expertly handles estate affairs, and exploits her position, they are not enough to save her in the end. Her character was thus seen as representative of the complex and cruel reality behind the idyllic façade that had finally begun to crumble in the contemporary world.
The plate was manufactured in China by Imperial Jingdezhen in 1986 and measures 8.5. I have the first 4 plates.
