Beautiful, one-of-a-kind hand-thrown stoneware vase by Paul Stein. Features a rich oxblood/plum reduction glaze with iridescent violet and blue tones. Classic baluster form with a wide flared lip. Signed on the base. Includes intentional firing cracks, original to the artist’s handmade process (exactly how I purchased it). Displays beautifully and measures approximately 12 3/8” tall, 5 5/16” across the rim, and about 7 1/8” at the widest point.
Stein’s ceramic work is featured by SDGallery, shown at Gualala Arts, and documented by The Marks Project, with pieces held in major private collections.
NOTE Shown in photos: As with many of Stein’s reduction-fired oxblood pieces, the vase includes several glaze pulls, pinholes, and small exposed clay spots where the glaze contracted during the firing process. These are not chips or post-production damage — they are normal characteristics of handmade studio pottery and are exactly how the piece was purchased. See close-up photos for details
