Manufactured between 1956 and 1959, Lionel classified the 2018 steam engine as a Prairie-type locomotive. This mid-sized engine showcases many of Lionel's signature features; it shares the same boiler casting as several other models, and while the boiler castings are the same across these models, the internal mechanisms often show slight differences. The 2018 model was priced a bit lower than the 2037 Prairie, which was produced during the same timeframe.
