A RARE FIND!
Nice antique original land deed from Florida land fraud history
In the late 1880s, the St. Andrew's Bay Railroad, Land, and Mining Company, a Cincinnati mail-order company (also known as the Cincinnati Company), began advertising property for sale in the Saint Andrews Bay, Florida area. The railroad land purchased from Van Kirk, Dubois & Webb by the Cincinnati Company had been originally donated from the state of Florida to the railroad company. The Cincinnati Company then acquired the land with the idea of dividing it into smaller parcels for purchase. The company promoted its Florida land scheme to Ohio and Pennsylvania residents by mail order. Over 300,000 lots were sold, then the company went bust. Subsequent investigation found lots were not as advertised - many much smaller, some even under water, and the true value far less than marketed.
