"Manie-Manie: The Labyrinth Tales" (迷宮物語 or Manie-Manie 迷宮物語) is an omnibus anime film released in 1987. It was produced from 1984 to 1985, but was shelved for a time due to its niche content. It was first screened publicly at the Tokyo International Fantastic Film Festival on September 25, 1987, released on video on October 10, 1987, and released in general theaters on April 15, 1989.
It consists of three episodes:
Rintaro's "Labyrinth * Labyrinthos,"
Yoshiaki Kawajiri's "The Running Man,"
Katsuhiro Otomo's "Construction Cancellation Order."
Katsuhiro Otomo's directorial debut in animation.
The title logo has the French "Manie-Manie" added in front. The English title is Neo Tokyo, which is the name of the city in the 1988 Katsuhiro Otomo-directed film "AKIRA," but it is unrelated to the content.
