U.S. Military Surplus
Luggage tags that were extremely popular from the late 1930s to the early 1940s.
Made of nickel, they were sold at PXs and other locations with designs for various departments, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Medical Corps.
As indicated by the "RETURN TO" inscription, they functioned as return tags, with the return address stamped in the ruled area.
These were not for fashion or decoration, but were functional tags used by the U.S. Post Office.
This one is from the U.S. Army Air Force, the predecessor of the U.S. Air Force, also known as the Army Air Corps.
There is a "A2032" stamp on the back, but the front is blank, so it can be considered almost deadstock.
It can be attached to travel bags, suitcases, or used as a dog tag, necklace, or keychain.
It seems that both silver and gold colors were available for each design, but this is the particularly rare gold color.
