A RARE FIND!
Nice vintage original souvenir butterfly card from Bill's Place, Pennsylvania
Wind up the butterfly and place it inside the card so that it flies out when the card is opened
Approximate Dimensions: 5 x 4 inches
Bills Place (population 6) qualified as a town on the Pennsylvania map because it had the smallest post office in the United States with its own postmark, measuring 6 feet by 8 feet on the outside. "Bill" was William Wakefield, who ran an open-air restaurant serving hot lunches in the Blue Ridge Mountains of central Pennsylvania. Why a post office was set up in such a tiny remote place is not clear, but it opened May 22, 1935, and lasted 18 years. The post office was an instant success with highway billboards and advertising for Bills Place touted the tiny post office next to the restaurant.
