This Vintage GE Tube Clock Radio harkens to a time before electronics received a greatly new miniaturization of components thanks to the transistor. That’s why this tube clock radio is not only large, but it’s also heavy due to the socket platform the tubes sit in.

First, the good. This thing is in amazingly good vintage shape. It’s clean and barely any scratches. The clock, which is covered by a clear protective plastic lens, works great and keeps great time. The annoying buzzing alarm works as it should.

Now for the not so good. The radio is barely-working. I say “barely” because it makes a low loud hum the entire time but I can sometimes catch the quiet sound of a station when I turn the tuning knob. A loud, low hum in a tube radio usually points to failing filter capacitors (smoothing caps), which can't properly smooth the DC power, or a ground loop, often from other nearby electronics or poor grounding, but can also be bad tubes, etc. This can be fixed.
