Antique embossed lithographed tinplate box with a central oval panel of five cherub/putti heads in relief, surrounded by whiplash scrolls and a faux green “croc” (alligator-skin) pattern to lid and sides. The sloped-side, octagonal hinged form and decoration are characteristic of late-Victorian/Edwardian Art Nouveau packaging, c.1900–1915. Likely British manufacture: firms such as Barringer, Wallis & Manners (Mansfield) or Hudson Scott (Carlisle) supplied unmarked tins for biscuit/toffee houses (Huntley & Palmers, Macfarlane Lang, George W. Horner, etc.). Comparable green cherub/angel tins from this era appear in the trade as biscuit or toffee tins with similar embossing and croc grounds. (See museum/trade discussions of Huntley & Palmers period tins and dealer examples of green cherub tins for reference.) • Size: approx. 16.5cm x 11.4cm; 5.5cm tall • Origin: UK, Art Nouveau period c.1900–1915 • Construction: embossed & lithographed tinplate, hinged lid • Condition: honest age wear—scuffs, litho losses, some surface oxidation inside and out; hinge sound. Presents well in a shabby-chic/industrial display. Great for display, prop styling, or small storage.
