Video Link -https://www.instagram.com/charliesopals/reel/DPHLf_oCIJL/ This stunning Ethiopian opal has been cut and polished to a VERY fine finish, and is now ready to be set into a ring, a pendant, or maybe just to admire as a beautiful keep sake. If used for a piece of jewellery, a gold or silver setting with a BLACK backing would be highly advised, as this will accentuate the stones stunning colour play and pattern. Opal is best viewed 'moving' in bright sunlight, or bright artificial light. The light/torch on a phone is also very good, and can reveal colour that you never thought was there without a substantially brighter light source. (opal needs lots of light to diffract). Ethiopian opals are unique in their varied vivid patterns, ranging from Welo Broad Flash, to Fire Cloud. The most sought-after pattern is honeycomb, a pattern exclusive to Ethiopian opal. Unlike Australian opal which is sedimentary, Ethiopian opal forms high up in the mountains, and volcanic eruptions are behind Ethiopian hydrophane opal formations. One distinguishing feature is that most Ethiopian opals are ‘hydrophane’ meaning their porous surfaces absorb water like a sponge, shifting their appearance, size, and stability when submerged. 🚨Do NOT get your opal wet. Link to ‘Care for your Opal’ in five easy steps” available at the top of my ‘About’. ⛑️🩹🏥🤕. All my photographs and videos are taken under bright artificial light with an iPhone 15 Pro. No enhancement or filters were used or added, just good angles and close ups (macro) with a mini tripod and a remote. Any questions, queries or opal/ lapidary advice, PLEASE don't hesitate to drop me a message, as I'm always happy to help. Regards JC
