Rare item no longer made from the Nuvem /Cloud series. Metal Cloud Brazil's design star brothers, Fernando and Humberto Camapana, have been responsible for some of the most innovative consumer goods of the past 20 years. Designing for such towering Italian firms as Venini, Fontana Arte, Edra, and Alessi, as well as their own Studio Campana, they are known for using unusual (sometimes even cast-off) materials in fascinating combinations. The Nuvem series for Alessi (nuvem is Portuguese for cloud) took several years to put into production due to the development of labor-intensive production methods needed to transform anodized aluminum wire through looping, twisting, turning, spinning, squashing into free-form bowls, vases, baskets, and mats. This example, in the beautiful light bright blue color, is a basket measuring about 13.5 inches (34 cm) in diameter and 3.5 inches (9 cm) tall. In excellent used condition.
