Antique Victorian Engraved Floral Reverse Carved Acrylic Brooch/Pendant which is 1.9” inches in length and 1” inch in width. This style of jewelry, is called "reverse intaglio," features an image (in this case, white flowers) carved into the flat back of a domed piece of acrylic rock then painted. When viewed from the front, this technique creates a realistic, three-dimensional or trompe l'oeil effect. Details technique: The intricate floral design is carved into the underside of the clear material and then hand-painted in reverse.
Material: Gold Tone, Acrylic. The piece is set in a gold-tone metal frame and appears to function as both a brooch (pin) and a pendant (note the small loops at the top and bottom).
Era: This technique was popular during the Victorian and Edwardian era.
