19th Century Figural Ottoman Meerschaum Pipe Bowl w/Marked Silver Fittings & Cherry Wood + Antler Horn Stem, c. 1850 Antique
Well-seasoned, long-stemmed chibook-esque pipe bowl from the mid to late 19th Century Ottoman Empire is made of fine Turkish meerschaum. This unique figural carving depicts an Ottoman Sultan of the era, likely Mahmud II (1808-1839) or Abdülmecit I (1839-1861). The bowl is fitted with sterling silver at each end, with a stylized maker's mark or hallmark of [mJ]. The bowl may have original had a silver lid that has been lost to time.
The stem is made from a cherry wood twig fashioned into a 21 inch long tube, which was popular at the time. The wood texture and knots of the wood is easily seen and felt by touch. Adding to the authenticity of this piece is the antler horn used to make the mouthpiece and band at the opposite end of the stem.
Will ship worldwide via UPS or USPS with Insurance and Signature Required.
