Detailed Information on Black Persimmon
Aging: ☆☆ Hardness: ☆☆
Origin: Japan, China Other Names: Japanese persimmon Deciduous broadleaf tree
Features
Ordinary persimmon has a pure white wood grain and is commonly called "white persimmon." It is difficult to use as a material because of its small diameter and severe twisting, making it of little value. However, the "black persimmon" with black stripes is discovered extremely rarely (said to be 1 in 10,000 trees) and has been highly valued. (It is impossible to distinguish between white persimmon and black persimmon from the appearance of the standing persimmon tree.)
It is the rarest and highest-grade wood among domestic materials, and is a valuable and highly prized high-quality wood worldwide.
Many black persimmon items are used in the Shosoin Treasure Repository's woodwork, and it is also considered a top-grade item for tea ceremony utensils, having been treasured since ancient times.
Its unique and beautiful striped pattern changes to a deep, lustrous color the more it is used due to the oil content of the black persimmon, truly becoming a product worthy of being called the highest grade.
Uses
Used for Japanese furniture, floor pillars, architectural decorative materials, tea ceremony utensils, etc.
* This is a species with significant individual differences.
* The wood grain pattern emphasizes the balance of white and black, and is not peacock grain.
* We cannot accommodate extra-thick specifications.
