Once upon a time, there came a parade of indie artists marching from Ohio against the world to add their verses to the history of rock & roll. Among them were The Afghan Whigs, Guided By Voices, A/s Ponys, Over-the-Rhine, The Breeders, and BRAINIAC.
"Smack Bunny Baby" is the debut record by the band with their original lineup – Timmy Taylor, Michelle Bodine, Juan "Monostereo" Monasterio, and Tyler Trent.
It's one of the '90s alternative gems, and missing from the vinyl medium altogether most of the years since. The CD was one track shorter. This record roars at you with all the fuzz, all the grunge, and the MOOG. The drums pounded, the guitar strings screeched, and the band chanted taunts that you had to turn up and up and up for the neighbors to hear them properly.
This 2023 reissue is by Craft Recordings and Concord Bicycle Records and has the full 12-song track list, "Velveteen." The limited pressing had black, green, and this indie-only violet vinyl.
