■About Tadanori Yokoo:
Tadanori Yokoo, born in Nishiwaki, Hyogo Prefecture on June 27, 1936, is a leading Japanese artist, graphic designer, painter, and writer. His works incorporate elements of psychedelia, occultism, and surrealism.
Career
He began his career as a graphic designer at the Kobe Shimbun newspaper in 1956 and became independent in 1959. From the 1960s to the 70s, he gained attention for his poster designs for performing arts and received international acclaim. In 1972, he held a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, becoming a globally recognized figure.
In 1981, Yokoo abandoned his illustrious career as a designer and declared his transition to an artist. This decision was also a declaration of his own exploration of the eternal theme of art versus design, artist versus designer.
Representative Works
Tadanori Yokoo's representative works include:
"Koshimaki Osen" (1966)
"TADANORI YOKOO" (1965)
"Y-Series"
"Expo Sun"

"Lotus Legend" (Santana album jacket, 1974)

1995: Mainichi Art Award
2001: Medal with Purple Ribbon
2011: Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, Asahi Prize
2015: Praemium Imperiale
In 2023, he became a member of the Japan Art Academy, and the "Tadanori Yokoo Kanzan Hyakutoku Exhibition" was held at the Tokyo National Museum in the same year.
Tadanori Yokoo's creativity is as natural as breathing to him, and his attitude of continuing to create purely for the sake of creation continues to fascinate people living in the present day.
