The state of Ohio was particularly significant to the political causes of Temperance and Prohibition in early American history. The National Woman's Christian Temperance Union emerged in Cleveland, Ohio in 1874, while the Anti-Saloon League grew out of the temperance fervor at Oberlin College in 1893. Even the Prohibition Party held its early national conventions in Ohio from 1872 to 1880. Supporters of these political movements were successful is in getting passed many pieces of anti-liquor legislation in the state. This form identifies the Woods "Search and Seizure" Law enacted in 1906 as its legal basis, which instructed the appropriate judicial officer to issue a search warrant upon the sworn complaint of any individual who "has reason to believe and does believe that liquor laws were being violated at a given location"
