Vintage Merle Norman Box Purse; Amber Tortoiseshell Lucite;Textured Lid/Dbl Hndl

This stunning box purse is by cosmetics brand Merle Norman. With a basket style design, the base of the purse & swinging double handles that cross over the top, are made of lucite in marbled amber faux tortoiseshell. The purse features a clear lid with a textured diamond & button pattern & a clasp in clear lucite. The decorative back hinges are clear cylinders accented with amber down the centers. The dimensions are 9” long, 4 3/4” wide, 4 1/2” high excluding the hinges & handles & 4” deep. Merle Norman Cosmetics produced this style box purse in the 1950’s-1960’s. They often came with styrofoam inserts to hold Merle Norman cosmetics & were designed to be used as a handbag after the makeup was gone. The purse is in wonderful vintage condition with only light scratches & faint markings on the body & handles from age. There are no chips, cracks or stains on exterior or interior. See all photos.
