Overview: Up for sale is a tremendous late 19th century oil painting on stretched canvas. It depicts cattle grazing in the foreground with a ruined castle in the background. It is unsigned and undated, but based on my research, this is pretty clearly a late Victorian piece, likely depicting a scene in Northern England. Particularly, this seems to be a scene depicting Dunstanburgh Castle in Northumberland. Age estimate is based on the period frame (ornate pressed composition molding common to the era), linen canvas, corner wood wedges, etc. I haven't been able to pin down a particular artist, but possibly hails from the circle of Thomas Sidney Cooper. Framed in an ornate wood frame.

Painting shows a few areas of paint loss, including moderate area at upper left, and small area at lower right, amongst other faint spots of loss. Frame is in good condition with chipping at upper right and lower left corners.

16 inches wide x 10 inches high. Frame 19.25 inches W x 13.25 inches H.
