Amazing piece of Maine maritime history — original 1884 Merchants’ Marine Insurance Company of Bangor open policy ledger and related documents. This $50,000 marine insurance policy was used for ship merchants operating between Portland and Bangor.

Includes detailed entries showing insured cargo, ports of origin and destination, insurance rates, and policy amounts. Two original printed policy documents are enclosed, both signed by the secretary and president of the Merchants’ Marine Insurance Company.

The ledger is in fair but solid condition with typical wear for its age. The cloth cover shows the most wear and fading, but the interior pages remain clean with light staining and dust along the binding. Most of the ledger pages are unused.
