Commemorative medal marking Pope John Paul II's visit to Great Britain in 1982

This is a commemorative medal marking Pope John Paul II's historic visit to Great Britain in 1982.  The medal features a portrait of Pope John Paul II on the obverse side with the Latin inscription "IOANNES PAULUS II • PONT • MAX".  It was produced to mark the six-day visit in May 1982, an event approved by the British Roman Catholic Church.  The medal is presented in a plastic display case that includes a brief biography of Pope John Paul II's rise through the church hierarchy.  The text details his ordination in 1946, becoming Archbishop of Cracow in 1964, and his election as Pope on October 22, 1978.
