Up for sale is a vintage Footprint No. 04 Smoothing Plane, a staple for any traditional woodworking shop. Footprint tools are renowned for their British craftsmanship and durability. This No. 4 size is the perfect "everyday" plane for smoothing surfaces and removing mill marks. Handles: The wooden tote (rear handle) and knob (front handle) are solid. They show finish wear and minor scuffs consistent with honest use. Mechanicals: The adjustment nut and lateral adjustment lever are present and moving. Blade: The iron (blade) has plenty of life left but will require a regrind and sharpening to be user-ready. Note to Buyer: As with most vintage hand planes, a quick "tune-up" (honing the iron and cleaning the sole) is recommended to get the best performance for your specific woodworking needs. Please keep in mind the planes I sell in my shop have come from workshop clearances. I have not personally used or tested this plane so I cannot guarantee it is ready to start work without issue. I have completely stripped the tool down to ensure it is not rusted, and given it a very thorough clean, including parts being ultrasonically cleaned. As the buyer, you will need to ensure the plane is appropriate for your use by studying all the photos provided and if needed, reassemble, sharpen & restore it to your desired preference. You are of course, still welcome to return the plane in the same condition as received for a full refund if in the unlikely event you do not feel the plane is suitable for your use.
