Vintage Stanley No 3 Smoothing Bench Plane - Classic Wood Plane Made in USA

Up for sale is a vintage Stanley No. 3 Smoothing Bench Plane. This is a classic model. Item Specifics: Brand: Stanley Model: No. 3 Type: Smoothing Plane Original/Reproduction: Vintage Original Country/Region of Manufacture: United States Material: Cast Iron with Wooden Tote and Knob Condition Notes: Body: The cast iron body is in solid condition with expected surface wear and minor oxidation from age. No cracks or welds were noted. The chrome has started to peel off. Handles: Features the original wooden tote and knob. Both show a lovely aged patina with some finish loss and minor scuffing. Unfortunately the handle has cracked near the base but remains sturdy and unnoticeable with the retaining bolt in place. Mechanicals: The brass adjustment nut and lateral lever are functional. Blade: The iron shows "Stanley Made in USA" markings. It has plenty of length remaining but will need a standard sharpening/honing to achieve a razor edge. Overall: This plane is a fantastic candidate for a light restoration or to be used as a reliable shop workhorse. Note to Buyer: As with most vintage hand planes, a quick "tune-up" (honing the iron and cleaning the sole) is recommended to get the best performance for your specific woodworking needs. Please keep in mind the planes I sell in my shop have come from workshop clearances. I have not personally used or tested this plane so I cannot guarantee it is ready to start work without issue. I have completely stripped the tool down to ensure it is not rusted, and given it a very thorough clean, including parts being ultrasonically cleaned. You will need to ensure the plane is appropriate for your use by studying all the photos provided and if needed, reassemble, sharpen & restore it to your desired preference. Of course, still welcome to return the plane in the same condition as received for a full refund if in the unlikely event you do not feel the plane is suitable for your use.
