A nice copy of Rev. Johns' classic ornithological survey, which covers all the British birds naturally living in the country at the turn of the century. Accompanied by habitual information and a plethora of very sweet monochrome illustrations. Rev. Johns was a highly respected Victorian botanist and educator whose books and guides have been relied upon by many for the last 150 years. In good condition with rubbing to the board edges and spine ends, gently bumped corners, tanned preliminary pages and the title pencilled onto the block edge by a previous owner. Internally, it is generally clean and smart past the first few pages, with lovely illustrations throughout. Fully bound in a pictorial navy cloth binding with black birds and plants and gilt-stamped titles to the cover and spine. Accompanied by near-black endpapers. 626pg. 20 x 12 cm. My books are packed and posted using recycled materials wherever possible. #139
