These pastoral figures were made by urban factory workers, from scraps of clay and memories of fields. There is some paint loss and a chip to the glaze by the creature's front left hoof. These figurines are usually much damaged -- the ears in particular -- but this one (from the flock of my collection) is unusually intact. I call her Dolly, but she is no clone. Each recumbent ruminant possesses their own cute, even grotesque expression. In their circumstances, who wouldn't?
