Sansho Oedo

Founded: 1894 (Meiji 27)
A manufacturer of yukata, established in Nihonbashi, Ningyocho.

Origin of the company name:
From the aspiration to sincerely uphold the three "wins" - superior fabric, outstanding design, and techniques that surpass others.

Features:
Preserving traditional techniques such as Nagaita Honzome, Chugata Chusen, and Aizome (indigo dyeing), and possessing approximately 10,000 pattern templates.

Also offering yukata and lifestyle goods that suit modern lifestyles.

Technology Succession:
Employing artisans who inherit dyeing techniques, and conveying the techniques certified by Living National Treasures to the present day.

Having celebrated over a hundred years since its founding, Nagaita Honzome, Chugata Chusen, and Aizome are in a state where the number of factories and artisans is limited. However, they are continuing to pass on the yukata dyeing techniques that their predecessors have devised and refined. These are exceptional yukata that are not mass-produced.

◆ Cotton Material
Yukata fabric
Unused, but
There is possible discoloration or staining on the selvedge.
There may be uneven dyeing due to the Honzome (authentic dyeing) process.

"Sansho" has remained committed to traditional dyeing techniques, all done by hand, without compromise, even during the era when chemical dyes and new dyeing methods were popular for rationally producing kimonos.

For Nagaita Chugata dyeing, Sansho employs the "Nagaita Chugata" technique.
It takes twice as much effort as Komon (small pattern kimono), according to the Living National Treasure, Sachi Shimizu.
Its delicate and refined beauty is truly the essence of Edo chic.
