The main body uses full vegetable tanned leather (nume leather) from Tochigi Leather Co., Ltd., founded in 1937, which is considered to have the best technology in Japan. It is also known worldwide as a full vegetable tanning tannery using pit tanks, a traditional method. The genuine nume leather, tanned slowly with powdered tannin extracted from the bark of mimosa trees from South America, is skillfully crafted with the techniques of artisans, resulting in a wild and highly refined leather. While the bono and rubono series, which are standard for SLOW, use raw hides from North America, this series uses carefully selected Japanese cowhide. Compared to North American hides, the grain surface is thinner, and by not applying an oil finish, it combines suppleness and lightness.
